Authentications and Visas


The following states or territories are serviced by the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles: Southern California up to zip code 92593, Arizona, New Mexico, Hawaii, and the Pacific Islands. The Consulate will only authenticate documents with State Seals from the Secretary of State and the Lt. Governor of Hawaii.

Your first step is to get your document/s state sealed by the Secretary of State  or Lt. Governor of Hawaii (separate page attached to the document). Birth and marriage certificates must also be State Sealed by the Secretary of State or Lt. Governor of Hawaii (separate page attached to the certificate) before being submitted to the Consulate in Los Angeles.  Red Tape Solution provides courier service to the California Secretary of State in Los Angeles.  Details can be found by clicking on Authentications.

Document Authentications

For California documents, we can courier your document/s to the CA Secretary of State or you may send your document/s already state sealed/authenticated.  When sending your documents always send them by a trackable service such as, Fed Ex, Express Mail, or UPS.


Document Authentication Fees and Information:


Personal Documents: (scroll down for single status and business documents)
 
Fees:
  • The Consulate charges $25 per personal document for a 4 to 5 business day turnaround.
  • The Consulate charges $45 per personal document for the next business day turnaround.
  • Courier fees for regular 4 to 5 business turnaround are: 
    • a minimum of $75 (total not per document) for up to 5 documents;
    • $105 (total not per document) from 6 to 10; 
    • $135 (total not per document) for 11 or more documents. 
    • There is an additional charge of $15 for the next business day service.
  • The Consulate reserves the right not to extend expedited services.
    
 Please include in your package:
 
  • Original document/s.  Each document must be state sealed by the Secretary of State or the Lt. Governor for Hawaii.  A separate page is attached.
  • Copy of each original page (document, notary page, county page, state seal page, etc.). A copy of the backside of the document is required, if there is any writing or stamp/s on the backside. DO NOT unstaple the original document pages. Copies are a requirement of the Consulate and will not be returned.
  • Optional: The notary may state the number of pages in each document, such as, "Power of Attorney 2 pages." Documents that do not require a notary (birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.), or if the document is 1 page and the notary statement and signature are on the document page, these documents are exempt from this requirement.
  • Completed and signed Chinese Authentication Form; http://losangeles.china-consulate.org/chn/visa/forms/P020120606858588450883.pdf . 
  • A copy of the signer's passport information and signature page.
  • A cashiers check or money order made payable to the Chinese Consulate. For your convenience, you may prefer to add the Consulate fee to the Red Tape Solution check below. You may pay with a personal or business check, by credit card, or by PayPal.  An additional 3.5% is charged to cover the PayPal service fee.
  • Check made payable to Red Tape Solution for all courier fees.  Personal or business checks are accepted. You may include the Consulate fees within the Red Tape Solution check.
  • Prepaid return airbill (Fed Ex, Express Mail, UPS, etc.). If you are sending your package by UPS, please put yourself as the sender and recipient.

Single Status Documents:
 
Fees:
  • The Consulate charges $25 per personal document for a 4 to 5 business day turnaround.
  • The Consulate charges $45 per personal document for a next business day turnaround.
  • Courier fees for a 4 to 5 day turnaround are: 
    • a minimum of: $75 (total not per document) for up to 5 documents;

Please include in your package: 

  • Affidavit of Single Status is required and may be printed from the website of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles at http://losangeles.china-consulate.org/eng/visa/forms/t225243.htm. If you are having the Affidavit notarized in California, do not use the notary wording (it does not fit the requirements of California law). The California notary will have the correct wording.
  • The notary must state how many pages are included in the Single Status document. For example, "Single Status 1 page".
  • The Affidavit must be submitted for authentication within 3 months of the document's notarization.
  • Once the document has been authenticated by the Chinese Consulate, it is valid for 6 months.
  • If you have been divorced or are a widower, an original certified copy of the divorce decree or death certificate is required. The divorce decree or death certificate must be state sealed by the Secretary of State or Lt. General for Hawaii and then authenticated by the Chinese Consulate.
  • Copy of each original page (document, notary page, County page, state seal, etc).  If there is any writing or stamps on the back, a copy of the back is required. DO NOT unstaple any original document pages. Copies are required by the Consulate and will not be returned.

  • A copy of the signer's passport informational page.
  • A cashiers check or money order made payable to the Chinese Consulate. Business Documents:

Fees:

  • The Consulate charges $50 per business document for a 4 to 5 business day turnaround.
  • The Consulate charges $70 per business document for the next business day turnaround.
  • Courier fees for a 4 to 5 business day turnaround are:
    •  a minimum of: $75 (total not per document) for up to 5 documents; 
    • $105 (total not per document) from 6 to 10; 
    • $135 (total not per document) for 16 or more documents. 
    • There is an additional charge of $15 for the next business day service.
  • The Consulate reserves the right not to extend expedited services.


Please include in your package:

  • Original document/s. Each document must be state sealed by the Secretary of State or the Lt. Governor for Hawaii.  A separate page is attached.
  • Copy of each original page (document, notary page, state seal, etc.,). If there is any writing or stamps on the back, a copy of the back is required. The Consulate requires the copies and the copies will not be returned. DO NOT unstaple the original documents.
  • Optional: The notary may state the number of pages for each document not including a separate notary page in the count. As an example, the statement may say, "Power of Attorney - 2 pages". The number of pages may be handwritten under the notary's signature or the notary form may provide a space for number of pages. 
  • For Corporations, a current mailed copy of your Statement of Information receipt (computer generated copy is not accepted by the Consulate) is required.  The receipt will have a dated Secretary of State stamp in the upper right corner. If you have a current renewed Statement of Information that does not list the Officers, then an expired Statement of Information that does list the Officers is ALSO required.
  • For corporations, a copy of an officer's passport information page and signature page is required.  The officer must be listed on the Statement of Information.
  • For LLC and Sole Proprietorships a copy of your current business license stating the type of business (retail sales, manufacturing, etc) and a copy of your Franchise Tax filing, or another government document is required which states the name and title of the owner, president, etc. A Certificate of Good Standing is not accepted by the Consulate as a supporting document.

  • For LLC and Sole Proprietorships, a passport copy of the information and signature page of the owner, president, or person mentioned in the above government supporting document is required.

  • A copy of the signer's passport information and signature page.

  • A cashiers check or money order made payable to the Chinese Consulate. Visa Information for US Passport Holders:

The Chinese Consulates and Embassy only accept visa applications by an "in-person" submission. You must use a courier to submit your visa applications or personally hand carry your application/s to the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles.

  • For those traveling on a U. S. Passport, you may apply for a single, double, 6 month or 1 year multiple entry visa all for the same Chinese Consulate fee of $140.
  • Consulate expediting fees are as follows: an additional $20 for the next business day turnaround.
  • Courier fees are $75 for up to 5 visas, and $105 for 6 visas. Additional expediting fees apply; $15 for the next business day.
  • The Consulate reserves the right not to extend expedited services.
 
 
S2 Visa for adopting parents for U.S. Passport Holders (scroll down for tourist and business travel):
 
Please include in your package:
  • Visa application (completed and signed) for each person traveling; http://losangeles.china-consulate.org/eng/visa/forms/P020130831026095240145.pdf . Your application must be filled out online, printed, and signed.
  • One professional passport photo stapled to the application.
  • Actual passport (valid for at least 13 months and with 2 or more blank visa pages). You should receive a 10 year multiple visa.
  •   A copy of your LOA.
  • A copy of your driver's license
  • All accompanying children are to apply for a tourist visa. If the child is under 12 years of age, the Consulate requires a copy of their birth certificate, consent letter from the non-traveling parent (only needed if one parent is traveling), and a copy of the non-traveling parent's passport or driver's license.
  • Children born in China who are applying for a visa must submit their actual Chinese passport (passport will be canceled and returned), the original final adoption document (Red Book) and a copy. The document must show their name change. 
  • If you were previously issued a Chinese passport and this is your first visa, then your actual Chinese passport and a copy of the iformation page and your US visa is required. The passport will be canceled and returned.
  • If you have traveled to China previously and have renewed your passport, you must either have one prior visa in your renewed passport or you must send your expired/canceled passport and a copy of the latest prior visa from your expired/canceled passport.
  • A cashiers check or money order made payable to the Chinese Consulate. For your convenience, you may prefer to add the Consulate fee to the Red Tape Solution check below.  You may pay with a personal or business check, credit card, or by PayPal.  An additonal 3.5% is charged to cover the PayPal service fee.

  • Check made payable to Red Tape Solution for all courier fees.  Personal or business checks are accepted. You may include the Consulate fees within the Red Tape Solution check.
  • Payment by PayPal is accepted.  We will send you an invoice through PayPal. An additonal 3.5% is charged to cover the PayPal service fee.

  • Prepaid return airbill (Fed Ex, Express Mail, UPS, etc.). If you are sending your package by UPS, please put yourself as the sender and recipient.

Tourist Visa (scroll down for business travel) for U.S. Passport Holders:

Please include in your package:

  • One professional passport photo stapled to the application.
  • Actual passport (valid for at least 13 months and with 2 or more blank visa pages). You should receive a 10 year multiple entry visa.

  • A copy of your confirmed flight itinerary including your hotel reservations generated by a travel agent or an internet travel site.
  • A copy of your driver's license
  • For children under 12 years who are applying for a visa, the Consulate requires a copy of their birth certificate, consent letter from the non-traveling parent (only needed if one parent is traveling), and a copy of the non-traveling parent's passport or driver's license.
  • Children born in China who are applying for a visa must submit their actual Chinese passport (passport will be canceled and returned), the original adoption paper showing their name change (Red Book), and a copy of their U.S. birth certificate (if you have readopted).
  • If you were previously issued a Chinese passport, then your actual Chinese passport is required. The passport will be canceled and returned.
  • If you have traveled to China previously and have renewed your passport, you must either have one prior visa in your renewed passport or you must send your expired/canceled passport and a copy of the passport information page and a copy of your prior visa from your expired/canceled passport.
  • A cashiers check or money order made payable to the Chinese Consulate. For your convenience, you may prefer to add the Consulate fee to the Red Tape Solution check below.  You may pay with a personal or business check, credit card, and by PayPal.  An additonal 3.5% is charged to cover the PayPal service fee.

  • An invitation from the inviting Chinese company.
  • A copy of your itinerary including hotel reservations generated by a travel agent or an internet travel site.
  • A copy of your driver's license
  • If you were previously issued a Chinese passport and this is your first visa, then your actual Chinese passport is required. The passport will be canceled and returned.
  • If you have traveled to China previously and have renewed your passport, you must either have one prior visa in your renewed passport or you must send your expired/canceled passport and a copy of a prior visa from your expired/canceled passport.

  • NGO - Under Part 2: Travel Information mark the box for Non-business visit
  • A cashiers check or money order made payable to the Chinese Consulate. Visa Information
for Non-U.S. Passport Holders:

The Chinese Consulates and Embassy only accept visa applications by an "in-person" submission. You must use a courier to submit your visa applications or hand carry your application/s to the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles.

  • $30 for a single entry visa for a 4 to 5 business day turnaround valid for 3 months.
  • $45 for a double entry visa for a 4 to 5 business day turnaround valid for 3 months.
  • $60 for a 6 month multiple visa for a 4 to 5 business day turnaround.
  • $90 for a one year multiple visa for a 4 to 5 business day turnaround.

  • Expediting fee is as follows: an additional $15 for the next business day turnaround.
  • Courier fees are $75 (total not per visa) for up to 5 visas and $105 (total not per visa) for 6 visas or more. Additional expediting fees apply; $15 fee for the next business day turnaround.
  • The Consulate reserves the right not to extend expedited services.


Please include the following in your package:

  • One professional passport photo attached to the application.

  • Supplemental Form (Fill in only the section that applies to your traveling situation)  
  • Actual passport (valid for at least 7 months or 1 year if applying for a 1 year multiple entry visa and with 2 or more blank visa pages). If you have not traveled to China previously, the Consulate will most likely issue you a single or double entry only.
  • Actual U.S. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) or a valid U.S. visa (I-20, I-94, etc.).
  • A copy of your driver's license
  • If you were previously issued a Chinese passport and this is your first visa, then your actual Chinese passport is required. The passport will be canceled and returned.
  • If you have traveled to China previously and have renewed your passport, you must either have one prior visa in your renewed passport or you must send your expired/canceled passport with your expired visa and a copy of a prior visa from your expired/canceled passport.

  • For business travel, an invitation from your inviting Chinese company is required.
  • A copy of your itinerary including hotel reservations generated by a btravel agent or an internet travel site is required for all applicants.
 
  • A cashiers check or money order made payable to the Chinese Consulate. For your convenience, you may prefer to add the Consulate fee to the Red Tape Solution check below.  You may pay with a personal or business check, credit card, or by PayPal.  An additonal 3.5% is charged to cover the PayPal service fee.
